Empathy: Learn about the problem
We start our week learning how to learn about problems. Most problems involve people, yet we tend to gather information first from online research and statistics rather from direct sources – other people.
In the design of a university application, your primary audience is the admissions committee. You’ll spend the day understanding their motivations and asking them about the admissions process
Define: Explain the problem in action sentences
We’ll learn how to unpack our conversations, observations and other research. We’ll learn how to synthesize what we’ve learned into sentences that get at the crux of the problem.
I met- – – – X
I learned – – – – X
It would be fantastic if we – – – – X to solve that problem.
Brainstorm: Throw up fantastical, fun, realistic ways to solve this problem
Unfettered imagination is key to innovation. Today we’ll introduce best practices for brainstorming in teams and how to build on others’ ideas. Learning to work in groups and encouraging each other is key to life’s successes. You’ll come up with various ways to best present yourself and your application package.
Prototype: Let’s think with our hands
With the ideas you’ve generated, we’ll equip you with animation, infographic, and other presentation tools to prototype your ideas into reality.
Test: How close are you to a solution that resonates?
We learn to decide on the next course of action by testing our prototypes with our intended users – the admissions counselors. You’ll reach out to the counselors contacted on Day 1 and ask if they’d be willing to give you feedback on your make-belief package.
Storytelling: Learn to present your solution
It’s not enough to solve a problem. Communication is key in convincing others to use what you’ve created. The best products on earth are backed by powerful stories. Come watch your kids present their ideas to you in a variety of ways as they tell the story of their journey with us.
